Egis has been selected to provide design and supervision consultancy services for the new cargo area at Bahrain International Airport (BIA).

The letter was signed by Bahrain Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed and Bahrain Airport Company CEO Mr Mohamed Yousif AI-Binfalah. It was received by Jacques Khoriaty, Middle East & South Asia aviation director at Egis.

The continuous fast development of cargo at the airport, as well as the strategy of the Kingdom of Bahrain to reinforce its position as a key cargo hub for the region led Bahrain Airport Company to take the decision to develop two cargo-logistic areas at BIA, namely a new cargo area and a cargo logistics centre located south of the runway.

The new cargo area will contain four warehouses that will support the growing express carrier operations at BIA with the new, effective infrastructure: cargo apron, taxiways and airside service roads, as well as warehousing space, tenant support facilities and offices.

Landside truck access and parking, landside staging area, airside staging area for GSE vehicles, as well as container and ground service equipment and landside staff and customer parking were included.

Egis team of experts will provide the support during all phases of the project, from master plan validation to construction supervision passing by the design.

Works are expected to start in January 2019.
