The Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) in the US will implement a Master Plan Update for Pittsburgh International Airport to oversee the developments at the airport over the next 20 years.

The US Federal Aviation Administration will need the update to apply for federal grant funding, as well as to ensure that certain safety aviation standards are met.

"Our ultimate objective is to create a plan for the airport that will meet the current and future needs of our customers, airlines and stakeholders."

ACAA says that the update will focus on assessing existing facility capabilities and requirements, which are needed for airfield, terminal, parking facilities, road access, cargo, business aviation and support functions.

Certain factors such as safety, security, financial feasibility, operational efficiency and environmental prudence will also be considered.

ACAA chairman David Minnotte said, "Our goal is to create a Master Plan Update that provides us with the flexibility to respond freely as new opportunities arise, while maintaining the regulatory and development standards that have been established for aviation and our community.

"Our ultimate objective is to create a plan for the airport that will meet the current and future needs of our customers, airlines and stakeholders."
