Vanderlande Industries Completes Baggage Handling System for Houston Airport
Vanderlande Industries has successfully completed the baggage handling system with inline screening system at terminal D of George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, which is part of the fourth-largest airport system in the US and the sixth-largest in the world.
“We have focused on ‘delivering certainty’ to this customer,” commented Mr de Groot, VP operations of Vanderlande Industries, US. “We are proud to have served them for several projects in the last five years. In 2010 Travel + Leisure recognised Houston for having America’s best airport. That is an outstanding achievement and I am convinced that Vanderlande baggage handling systems contributed and will contribute to the success of this airport now and in the future.”
State-of-the-art baggage handling system
With more than 50 years experience in material handling systems, Vanderlande Industries is one of the world’s leading turnkey integrators of baggage handling systems. Vanderlande Industries has implemented more than 50 system solutions in the US and continues to grow every year. The project at George Bush Intercontinental Airport included more than 3,350ft of material handling conveyors, a six-machine explosive detection system (EDS), a screening system and new ticket counter conveyors. Next to the baggage handling system Vanderlande Industries also provided the passenger screening area. With this new material handling system, terminal D is prepared to serve the increasing number of foreign carriers that fly to Houston.
First VIBES deployment in North America
This project marked the first North American deployment of VIBES, the Vanderlande Industries baggage handling system software. This software routes the bags in the most optimal way to their destination. Vanderlande has successfully used VIBES in larger baggage handling systems for example at Schiphol airport in the Netherlands as well as at Heathrow T5 in the UK. It has a proven track record and makes control of the baggage handling process much more effective. Vanderlande is very proud that Houston Airport took advantage of this opportunity.
