Airbus has completed the acquisition of a 250-channel Brüel & Kjær PULSE data acquisition system, which is designed for multi-purpose noise and vibration testing of aircraft components.
The European aircraft manufacturer will initially use the system for ramp noise compliance testing of its jetliners, in order to determine and reduce the noise exposure of maintenance personnel and passengers boarding or disembarking the airliner.
The primary sources of noise include auxiliary power units (APUs), air cycle machines and brake fans.
Airbus’s new data acquisition system is based on Brüel & Kjær’s standard PULSE LAN-XI data acquisition hardware and PULSE Reflex post-processing analysis platform and will support other activities within the noise and vibration evaluation processes.
PULSE LAN-XI data acquisition hardware is a modular system that allows individual modules to be used as stand alone front-ends or accumulated together into frame-based configurations.
The modules can also be distributed throughout an aircraft and connected with single LAN cables for synchronised results.

By GlobalDataAdditional channels can be added as required and the systems can be split into smaller ones of any size.
For larger aerospace systems, the number of channels supported, data sampling frequencies, phase matching between channels and the ability to manage wide dynamic range inputs put together makes PULSE a leading system.
The system is designed to provide a streamlined work flow to manage the system setup, data recording, monitoring and post-processing analysis of acoustic signals.
According to Brüel & Kjær, the self-test and verification tools of the system offer high channel-count systems and ensure reliable performance, even in the complex configurations.
Airbus is configuring its new system for a wide range of applications, which will allow the company to capitalise on Brüel & Kjær’s range of noise and vibration measurement and test solutions.
