Sukhoi Civil Aircraft plans to launch its Superjet passenger plane in 2010, and is negotiating with Lufthansa and Alitalia about potential sales.

The superjet aircraft, which will begin service with its first customer, Armenia’s Armavia, has already received 152 orders, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The Superjet aircraft will compete with Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica, Bombardier and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation.

The aircraft is expected to receive certification from European regulator EASA by mid-2011, which will be followed by regulatory approval from the US.

The plane made its maiden flight in May 2008 and has logged over 800 flights with four test aircraft.
