Thai Airways International has sued Japan’s Koito Industries for around $180m for a delay in delivery of aircraft seats.

Koito did not supply the seats on time as it failed to obtain certification for its products from Japanese and European authorities.

At the beginning of 2010, Koito admitted that it had falsified safety test results, according to Reuters.

In September, US and European aviation regulators ordered airlines worldwide to check seats made by Koito Industries, a move estimated to affect 150,000 seats across 1,000 passenger jets.

In 2009, Koito Industries paid 3.6bn yen ($43.9m) in compensation for delays in delivery to various airlines, and set aside 3.3bn yen ($40m) for further expected claims in 2010.
