Virgin Galactic’s suborbital spaceship, Enterprise, has successfully completed its first solo test flight in California, US.
During the test the spaceship was carried to an altitude of 45,000ft by an aeroplane and then dropped to glide back to the Mojave Air and Space Port, according to the BBC.
The test is part of the preparation to use the Enterprise spaceship to take people, who are prepared to pay $200,000, on short trips above the atmosphere.
Built by Mojave’s Scaled Composites company, the spaceship is bigger and will be capable of carrying eight people – two crew and six passengers.
Enterprise will be launched by the Eve carrier plane before being released mid-air, when it will ignite its single hybrid rocket engine to rise to space.
