  • ATM automation system now operational, ensuring seamless air traffic control continuity across Denmark’s area control centre (ACC) and major airports
  • Open platform architecture enables future service integration and long-term system resilience

The Danish air navigation service provider Naviair has successfully deployed and put into live operation
its backup air traffic management (ATM) system, based on Frequentis’ ATM automation solution
PRISMA.

The high-capacity backup system is designed to ensure seamless continuity of air traffic services in the
event of a failure of the main ATM system, or during scheduled maintenance and AIRAC (aeronautical
information regulation and control) updates. The project delivers a robust and fully capable fallback
environment for Naviair’s area control centre and approach/tower units at Copenhagen, Billund, and
Roskilde airports.

“Our new backup system meets the highest operational and technical standards,” says Morten
Fruensgaard, Chief Operating Officer at Naviair. “PRISMA gives us the confidence that we can maintain
resilient, safety-critical services at all times, and we appreciate the close collaboration with Frequentis
throughout the project.”

The system is built on Frequentis’ open ATM platform, the MosaiX framework, providing high security
standards and central management services. It includes a test and validation system (TTC) and a
dedicated training environment (TRG) at Copenhagen ACC, as well as remote controller working
positions at Billund and Roskilde.

“The transition to live operations marks a major milestone for both teams,” says Josef Kutschi, Managing Director at Frequentis Comsoft. “This project demonstrates how a modern and flexible highcapacity backup system can deliver lasting value. We are proud to support Naviair in strengthening the resilience of its ATM infrastructure and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration.”

Following an agile delivery approach, the project included three validation phases between 2022 and
2024 and was completed with site acceptance in May 2025. With the system now live and fully operational, Naviair is equipped to ensure uninterrupted ATM services under all circumstances.
