Aircelle has delivered an advanced jet engine nacelle demonstrator to Snecma to evaluate new technologies.
The evaluation will provide future enhancements in aircraft operating efficiency along with lower noise levels, reductions in weight and improved maintenance.
The nacelle, developed jointly with Snecma, is part of Aircelle’s nacelle innovative and acoustic demonstrator (NAIAD) programme, launched by the firm in 2007.
The NAIAD features an all-composite laminar flow air inlet, advanced acoustic treatment on interior surfaces and nacelle components produced through new manufacturing processes such as thermoplastic forming.
The full-scale NAIAD inlet will be tested later this year at Snecma’s facility, and follow-on outdoor testing is planned for 2011 at GE’s Peebles, Ohio, facility in the US.
Aircelle and Snecma are companies of Safran group.
