Lockheed Martin will continue to serve the Federal Aviation Administration’s automated flight service stations (AFSS) contract under a three-year option worth $356m.

Under the AFSS contract, Lockheed will continue to employ technology enhancements and a hub system to modernise flight services.

Flight planning is now streamlined and allows the sharing of weather and flight plan statuses across the entire Lockheed Martin AFSS network.

The AFSS was initially awarded to the firm in 2005.
