Russia’s Energomash will deliver four rocket engines for US Atlas rockets under a contract with Lockheed Martin.

Four 5t engines in special containers will be loaded on trailers and delivered to Sheremetyevo Airport near Moscow, Russia, according to RIA Novosti.

The engines will be later transported on board an An-124-100 cargo aircraft to the US.

The Russian-made RD-180 liquid-fuel engine uses an efficient, high-pressure staged combustion cycle.

In the 1990s, General Dynamics Space Systems Division had acquired rights for the RD-180, later purchased by Lockheed Martin, for use in the evolved expendable launch vehicle (EELV) and the Atlas programme.
