Eumetsat has selected Arianespace for the launch contract of the Metop-C polar orbiting satellite.
Arianespace will launch the Metop-C into polar orbit atop a Soyuz launcher from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana in the last quarter of 2016.
Metop-C is the third in a series for the Meteorological Operational Polar (Metop) satellite programme.
The Metop programme comprises three satellites designed to provide a continuous stream of constantly calibrated meteorological data.
Built by Astrium, the satellite will weigh 4,250kg at launch and will be fitted with instruments to take atmospheric measurements, and map temperatures and wind fields on the ocean surface.
