Bombardier plans to direct air carriers to inspect their fleet of Q400 aircraft for cracks or corrosion in engine casings, following faults recently found by an airline.
Bombardier spokesman John Arnone told Bloomberg that 222 of over 300 planes in service globally with 30 carriers need to be examined for fatigue, corrosion or stress in the engine casings attached to the landing gear on the Q400.
“It’s a potential structural issue that could impact the aircraft’s operations,” he said. “There have been no incidents yet.”
Qantas Airways temporarily grounded five of its Q400s recently, following incidents experienced by UK Q400 operator Flybe.
