SpiceJet has announced plans to buy 30 aircraft from Boeing, at an estimated cost of $2.7bn.
Spicejet director Ajay Singh told the Business Standard that it has board approval for the acquisition of 30 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft for delivery from 2014.
Currently, the airline operates a fleet of 21 Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 aircraft and will add seven more in the current financial year.
“We will induct seven aircraft this year and plan to induct an equal number or slightly more by the end of the next financial year. We plan to have 50 aircraft by 2014,” Singh added.
