Dubai-based carrier Emirates has ordered an extra 30 Boeing 777-300ERs, taking their total order to 101.

The airline disclosed the deal, valued at $9.1bn, at the Farnborough Air Show, which is taking place in the UK this week.

The deal marks a great start for the event, which generated over $88bn of trade in 2008.

There are currently 53 777-300ERs in the Emirates fleet, each consisting of 310 economy-class seats, 42 business-class and eight first-class suites.

Elsewhere at the industry event, The Qinetiq Zephyr craft claimed to set a new unmanned endurance flight record after passing the 168-hour mark last Friday, achieved over a week above the US Army’s Yuma proving ground.

The craft must now land safely to officially claim the record.
