Malaysian Airline System is holding talks with Airbus over the delayed delivery of its six A380 superjumbo planes, and may consider terminating the order.

The carrier was originally meant to receive the first of the six A380 airplanes in 2007, but the deal was pushed back to 2012 due to series of production-related delays.

Malaysian Airline System chief executive Azmil Zahruddin told Dow Jones that the company was still in discussions with Airbus regarding compensation for the delays and the need to confirm that there would be no further delays.

The carrier has placed firm orders for a total of 56 aircraft, with deliveries starting this year and continuing to 2016, with options for an additional 32 aircraft.
