Bombardier has received the certificate of airworthiness (CofA) from Transport Canada for the first Global 5000 jet to be operated by the German Federal Ministry of Defence (FMOD).
The German Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) selected the Global 5000 jet and two Airbus aircraft in December 2007 as a part of plans to modernise its special mission wing.

The special mission wing will operate four Global 5000 jets for VIP transport and medical evacuation (MedEvac) flights.
Bombardier vice-president of specialised and amphibious aircraft sales marketing and administration Derek Gilmour said the Global 5000 jet was best suited to meet the BWB jet requirements.
The aircraft can be reconfigured for MedEvac capabilities with the option to carry an intensive care patient transport unit when required, he said.
The new aircraft will replace the FMOD’s existing fleet of Challenger 601 aircraft.
