Orbital Sciences will build and deliver the Azerspace / Africasat-1a communications satellite to Azerbaijan under a contract with the country’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies.
The satellite will be based on Orbital’s STAR-2 platform and features 36 active transponders.

Hybrid Ku and C-band payloads on the satellite enable services to Azerbaijan, Central Asia, Europe and Africa.
Orbital will also provide the ground systems for the spacecraft, which will be positioned in a geosynchronous orbit (GEO) at 46° E longitude.
The firm will undertake in-orbit testing and once complete, will hand over operational control to the ministry.
