Boeing has successfully completed the on-orbit handover of the DIRECTV 12 satellite to DIRECTV.
The satellite, based on Boeing’s 702HP satellite, will provide high-definition television broadcasting to local and national markets across US.
DIRECTV 12 was launched into orbit in December 2009 from Kazakhstan atop an International Launch Services Proton M rocket.
Intelsat will now control and monitor the satellite following the completion of orbital manoeuvres and checkout procedures by Boeing.
The satellite’s powerful payload integrates 90 active and 24 spare Ka-band transponders.
The craft’s antenna receives and transmits digital programming throughout the US with two Ka-band reflectors, each measuring 2.8m in diameter, and nine smaller Ka-band reflectors.
