Boeing will increase the production rate of the next-generation 737 programme to 34 airplanes a month in early 2012.
The planned increase, up from the present 31.5 a month, aims to meet continued strong demand for the nexg-Generation 737, according to Boeing.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Jim Albaugh said that despite the global economic downturn, the company’s diverse 737 backlog has remained strong.
“Increasing the 737 production rate is the right thing to do to meet the growth and fleet replacement needs of our customers,” he said.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes marketing vice-president Randy Tinseth said that there would be an increased demand for airplanes, especially in the market served by the next-generation 737 in 2012 and beyond.
The aircraft manufacturer is also considering further production rate increases of other lines in the face of rising customer demand.
