Russian space agency Roscosmos, the European Space Agency (ESA), French space agency CNES and Arianespace plan to launch the first Soyuz spacecraft from the Guiana Space Centre in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The first Soyuz launcher has already been assembled with the final Russian and European systems undergoing final qualification.

The ESA set up the “Soyuz at the Guiana Space Centre” (CSG) programme to strengthen collaboration with Russia on launch vehicles.

Arianespace will take over operations of the Soyuz launch complex once the ESA relinquishes responsibility for the development of the programme.

Roscosmos manages the programme for Russia and coordinates activities of the country’s aerospace companies involved.

CNES is the project’s prime contractor and system architect for the Soyuz launch system at CSG.
