Boeing has completed the first engine test-run on a 787 Dreamliner using General Electric GEnx engines.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes 787 programme vice-president and general manager Scott Fancher said the partners at GE had worked diligently to ensure the engines were ready for testing before first flight of ZA005 and throughout the flight test programme.

After the engine tests, the fifth 787 ZA005 will undergo a series of ground tests similar to those conducted on the first 787s to prepare it for first flight later this quarter.

The 787 aircraft, Boeing’s latest twinjet, will provide non-stop services between mid-size cities and Boeing is offering the jet powered by either Genx engines or Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines.
