Iran plans to launch two satellites into orbit by the end of 2010, as per a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with Russia.
Iranian advisor to the communications minister Mohammad Hosseinpour told Mehr News Agency that the launch of a remote sensing satellite and a telecommunications satellite were being planned for the current Iranian calendar year.
The new satellites, designed to decrease telecom traffic between Russia and Europe, will be equipped with filming applications and data-image transmission sensors.
The country launched its first indigenously produced satellite, Omid (Hope), in February 2009, followed by the Tolou, Mesbah II and Navid satellites.
