The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency’s (JAXA) Hayabusa spacecraft, which has travelled to an asteroid, is set to land in Woomera, Australia in June 2010.
Defence Minister Senator John Faulkner said the Australian authorities will assist JAXA in ensuring the recovery of the spacecraft on its return and are working closely with its Japanese counterparts on the proposed path and landing of Hayabusa.
The spacecraft made contact with Asteroid Itokawa in 2005 and is carrying a sample recovery module.
JAXA is expected to make a few more trajectory correction manoeuvres before re-entry to improve the accuracy of its landing.
