China and Brazil will have direct access to data from satellites jointly developed, launched and operated by the two nations, as per a new memorandum of understanding (MoU).
With the agreement, the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite (CBERS) programme becomes global.
CBERS is a joint remote sensing system for agriculture, meteorology and the environment.
The system’s images are used to monitor the environment, measure deforestation in the Amazon and help urban planning, among other purposes.
The MoU will enable China and Brazil to cooperate on the peaceful use of space technology and define the data policy to distribute the CBERS images.
