Solar Impulse HB-SIA, the fully solar-powered aircraft, has successfully completed a test flight to verify its in-flight behaviour.

In the one hour and 27-minute mission, the aircraft climbed up to 1,200m and performed the initial flight exercise before landing.

Solar Impulse CEO and co-founder André Borschberg said that the aim is to verify the prototype’s behaviour in flight and to test its reaction to various manoeuvres.

After 87 minutes the test pilot familiarised himself to the prototype’s flight behaviour, verified its controllability and confirmed that the aircraft behaved as anticipated during simulation.

The Solar Impulse project aims to fly the first solar-powered plane around the world without conventional fuel.
