The Virgin Blue Group has placed an order for up to 105 Boeing 737 aircraft.
The deal includes firm orders for 50 B737-800 NG aircraft with an option to convert the order to either B737-700 or B737-900, along with 25 options and 30 future purchase rights.
The aircraft will be equipped with the latest technology under the Boeing performance improvement plan including engine improvement and enhanced aerodynamics to reduce the carrier’s carbon footprint.
While a portion of the aircraft will replace the airline’s existing narrow body fleet the rest will be used on new routes and to increase frequency on high demand routes.
Virgin Blue chief executive Brett Godfrey said that by securing this agreement Virgin Blue is in a strong position to prepare for steady future growth as domestic and short haul markets recover.
Delivery is scheduled from June 2011 through to 2017.
