Ethiopian Airlines has received the first of eight Q400 aircraft on order with Bombardier.

The Q400 aircraft can fly 78 passengers at a maximum cruise speed of 360kt up to a distance of over 300nm.

The aircraft for the national flag carrier will meet demand for domestic flights and enhance Ethiopia’s tourism sector, according to the Ethiopian News Agency.

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Girma Wake said that the Bombardier Q400 aircraft will replace Fokker aircraft, which have been in service for the last 15 years.

The remaining seven aircraft are expected to enter into service by October 2010.

Ethiopian Airlines ordered eight Q400s for $192m.
