Air Berlin has reduced its order for 25 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to 15, citing changing market conditions as the cause.
The reduction in the firm’s orders for ten aircraft is expected to save $1.7bn for the airline, which cited changing market condition as the cause for the cut.
Air Berlin, which will save $1.7bn from the reduction, has also reduced the number of optional aircraft from ten to five.
Air Berlin CFO Ulf Hüttmeyer said that the agreement meant a significant reduction of Air Berlin’s financial obligations due to lower and much more distributed investment profile.
In addition, the carrier has asked Boeing to delay the delivery of the nine 737 aircraft due in 2010-2011 and up to 2015.
The first 787 is scheduled for delivery to Air Berlin in 2015.
