Boeing has concluded initial airworthiness testing on the new 747-8 freighter.

The air freighter, with a maximum structural payload capacity of 140t, can carry 16% more cargo than a 747-400 freighter.

The airplane can accommodate four more main-deck pallets and three more lower-hold pallets than its predecessor.

According to cargo dencity requirements, the 747-8F can either carry and additional 20t of cargo or fly 1,400nm further.

During the airworthiness test, the airplane performed as expected having previously undergone initial stall tests, other dynamic manoeuvres and an extensive checkout of the aircraft’s systems.

In upcoming tests, the cargo aircraft will reach an altitude of more than 43,000ft and a speed of Mach 0.97. Further testing will push the airplane beyond expected operational conditions.
