Gulfstream Aerospace has successfully completed its first series of flight tests for its ultra-large-cabin, ultra-long-range Gulfstream G650.
The G650’s handling qualities, engine operability and flap operation have been tested at intended airspeeds of up to 240kt and desired altitudes of up to 9,500ft, during a one-hour-45-minute flight.
The tests also included aircraft’s pitot-static systems, avionics, hydraulic systems, electrical power generation and distribution, flight controls, and cabin environmental and pressurisation controls.
During the tests, key real-time data was monitored using a new telemetry system configured to downlink more than 2,000 different parameters.
The Gulfstream G650 business jet is powered by Rolls-Royce BR725 engines and is capable of travelling 7,000nm at Mach 0.85, having a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925.
The aircraft, which completed its first flight on 25 November 2009, is scheduled for entry-into-service in 2012.
