Sikorsky and Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) have created a joint venture to manufacture aerospace components for Sikorsky in India, including components for S-92 helicopter cabins.
The JV agreement takes forward a Sikorsky contract signed in June 2009 to TASL to assemble S-92 helicopter cabins from 2010.
The new joint venture will manufacture components for other aerospace original equipment manufacturers and detailed parts for the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter cabin.
The JV operations will be housed in a second greenfield facility in Hyderabad, next to the cabin assembly building that is being built.
The JV’s facility will complete construction by 2011 and begin production in late 2012.
The formation of the joint venture is subject to the satisfaction of a number of regulatory and business conditions.

By GlobalDataSikorsky Operations senior vice-president Mick Maurer said that Sikorsky’s affiliation with Tata both strengthens its supply chain and extends its globalisation effort to establish significant operations in regions where the need for rotorcraft and support is great.
“India is certainly a key aerospace region, and we are thrilled to team with Tata and help serve and grow the business there,” he said.
Tata Advanced Systems CEO General Davinder Kumar said that this is part of their strategy to participate meaningfully in this space, and to enhance India’s capacities in this sector.
