The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) has unveiled a new SF-A engine for the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China’s (COMAC) C-919 airliner.

The single-aisle C-919, touted as China’s largest commercial aircraft and being built by COMAC, can fly up to 190 passengers a distance of 4,075km.

The jet, which will serve the short and medium-haul markets, will enter into service in 2016.

According to AVIC, the SF-A satisfies all the necessary requirements to power the C-919.

COMAC will initially select western-made engines for the aircraft until it finds Chinese engine suppliers to replace them.

The SF-A engines are expected to be fully developed by 2016. An additional period of several months will be required to receive necessary certification for installation.
