US-based global freight carrier FedEx Corporation has received its first Boeing 777 Freighter (777F), the world’s biggest cargo carrier aircraft.
FedEx Express International president Michael L Ducker said that the 777F was a game changer.
“The combination of operational efficiencies and environmental benefits of 777F help FedEx Express make the global customers benefit from more point-to-point routes in shorter flight times,” he said.
During FedEx Express operations the 777 Freighter will be able to fly 5,800nm with a payload capacity of 215,000lb, a 37,000lb increase compared with the fleet of MD-11 freighters.
The 777 Freighter also reduces maintenance cost and provides quieter take-offs and landings better suited to meeting airport noise standards and also uses 18% less fuel than the MD-11 Freighter on comparable FedEx Express routes.
