RUAG has displayed the latest version of its integrated self-protection solution (ISSYS) family, a plug-on device (POD) to enable helicopter self-protection on a per-mission basis at the Defence Systems & Equipment International 2009 event currently being held in London.

The POD is based on the IDAS / CIDAS self-protection suite from Saab Avitronics that can be installed in 15 minutes for use on different helicopter platforms.

The POD features sensors, threat recognition and data processing and chaff / flare dispensers. It can be mounted at any available hardpoint, using platform specific interface adapters.

The device’s cockpit display panel is not integrated into the platform avionics system resulting in fast deployment without rectifying the platform.

POD can also be used on older and smaller helicopters that have not been fitted with self-protection systems as standard.

RUAG Aerospace intends to accredit POD according to EASA part 21 standards for military applications.
