Joint operations have started with the Discovery shuttle successfully docking on to the International Space Station.
The Leonardo multipurpose logistics module (MPLM) aboard the space shuttle has been moved, attached and activated to the space station’s Harmony module.
Leonardo, which carries 15,000lb of supplies and equipment for use on the station was unhatched after checking for leaks and pressurisation. The transfer of equipment from the shuttle’s mid deck to the station is now under way in preparation of upcoming spacewalks.
Flight Engineer Nicole Stott has safely replaced Tim Kopra as the new station resident.
