Airbus has received orders for seven A330-300 aircraft from Turkish Airlines, confirming the memorandum of understanding signed at the Paris Airshow in June 2009.
Turkish Airlines will operate the Rolls-Royce-engined aircraft on high-capacity medium-haul routes.
The twin-engine, wide-body aircraft can fly 289 passengers up to a distance of 5,650nm at a maximum speed of Mach 0.86.
Turkish Airlines chairman Candan Karlitekin said their in-service experience with the Airbus A330 has demonstrated the low operating costs and high level of cabin comfort.
“This made it the logical choice for a repeat order to allow us to efficiently achieve our targeted growth,” Karlitekin said.
The new A330-300s will add to the carrier’s existing fleet of 67 Airbus aircraft, including five A310s, 46 A320 family aircraft, seven A330s and nine A340s.
