Spaceport America witnessed the first successful testing of the Moog-FTS-built ground-launch unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) prototype.

The UAV achieved its test objectives during its low-altitude sub-orbital trajectory. The prototype was launched by UP Aerospace.

New Mexico Space Authority executive director Steve Landeene said the launch is another example of Spaceport America delivering on the unique capabilities of the commercial space sector.

“Major players in the space industry like Moog-FTS and other aerospace companies are increasingly becoming aware of the opportunities available at Spaceport America,” he said.

Spaceport America, the world’s first commercial spaceport, is presently in the construction phase.

The space launch pad will feature a 10,000ft runway by mid-2010 and a terminal hangar facility by early 2011.
