Honeywell has stolen headlines at the Paris Air Show, demonstrating its Gulfstream G450 jet following the world’s first transatlantic flight of an aircraft using biofuel.

The aircraft landed on Saturday morning having travelled across the Atlantic using a 50/50 blend of Honeywell green jet fuel and standard jet-A fuel in its number-one engine.

The Airbus A320neo aircraft also has proven to be a big hit on the opening day of the show with a flurry of orders announced by the European aircraft manufacturer.

Airbus boasted considerable action on the opening day, with aircraft leasing company Air Lease confirming that it had signed a commitment to order 50 of the company’s new A320neo aircraft as well as options for a further 14. Excluding options, the contract is valued at $6bn at list prices.

Capital Aviation Services added to the A320neo momentum by ordering 60 of the aircraft, worth approximately $5.5bn. Swedish airline SAS ordered 30 of the aircraft, valued at around $2.8bn, with further options for an additional 11 in place.

Airbus rival Boeing announced orders and commitments for 17 of its 747-8 intercontinental aircraft, valued at a combined $5.4bn.The aircraft can seat 467 passengers and boasts greater fuel efficiency than the current 747 model. The 747-8 backlog now stands at 50 firm aircraft.
