The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has certified the 230hp SR305-230E diesel engine developed by Societe de Motorisations Aeronautiques (SMA) in Europe.

The SR305-230E diesel engine is guaranteed for a 2,000-hour time between overhaul and has been designed for single and multiengine aircraft.

The engine will enter service in 2012 and has been tested by Maule Aircraft on its models.

SR305-230E uses Jet A fuel that helps to lower fuel costs, reduces carbon dioxide emissions and eliminates all lead emissions.

This clears the way for certification by the Federal Aviation Administration, which is expected in weeks, according to charterx.com.
