Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is waiting for the government approval to sign an agreement with Turkish Airlines (TK) to share passengers on select international routes.

The joint venture would help PIA increase its revenue without injecting fresh equity.

PIA will share 4% of its passengers with TK, however, passengers on all of PIA’s direct flight routes, including the US, the UK, France, Norway, Denmark and other European stations will not be shared.

In return, TK will share its passengers with PIA on Asian routes such as Dhaka, Colombo and Kathmandu.

The agreement will help Pakistani passengers to have one-stop flights to over 100 destinations across the world in the shortest possible time.

PIA would increase its number of flights to 17 a week from two at present to Istanbul from where the passengers would be shifted to TK planes towards over 100 destinations in the US and Europe.

The agreement would also solve the overstaffing issue in PIA as additional staff will be used for flights to Istanbul, according to thenews.com.pk.
