Russia’s space force commander Oleg Ostapenko has said that the country’s new generation Angara booster rocket will be ready for a test launch by 2012.

Angara rockets are designed to support lifting capabilities between 2,000kg and 40,500kg into low-earth orbit.

The rockets are expected to be central to Russia’s carrier rocket fleet and replace older systems.

Angara rockets possess a similar modular design similar to that of the evolved expendable launch vehicle, based on a common universal rocket module, according to en.rian.ru.
