Boeing has announced receival of an order for 15 next-generation 737 aircraft from Alaska Airlines.
The order includes 13 737-900ERs and two 737-800s.
The $1.3bn contract includes exercised options previously placed by Alaska.
The 737-900ER, the newest addition to Boeing’s 737 series, can fly about 500nm further than the 737-900. It has a two-class configuration and can connect distant city pairs.
Boeing said the 737900ER offers 6% lower operating costs per trip, when compared with competing models.
President of Alaska Airlines Brad Tilden said, “The 737-900ER will be a perfect fit for our transcontinental, high-traffic west coast and mid-continental markets and will be the most fuel-efficient aircraft in our fleet.”
