China’s aviation regulator, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), is planning to work with the US Federal Aviation Administration to certify Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China’s (Comac) new C919 passenger jet.

Comac has filed an application with CAAC to evaluate the C919, which is set to take off for its first flight in 2014 and enter service in 2016.

CAAC administer Li Jiaxiang said: “We are going to have joint cooperation on certification of the C919.”

Comac’s aircraft is a narrow-body plane with a seating capacity of 190, reports the Wall Street Journal.
