US civil aviation regulator, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), has made a ruling that will require non-scheduled charter airlines and air taxis to train pilots and flight attendants in crew resource management (CRM).
As per the new rule, charter airlines will have to establish initial and recurrent CRM training for their crewmembers within the next two years.
CRM training focuses on interactions among flight personnel and helps reduce human error.
The regulation comes in lieu of a 2003 National Transportation Safety Board recommendation, which has been on the FAA board’s “Most Wanted” list of safety improvements.
