Iranian Communications and Information Technology Minister Reza Taqipour has said that Iran has plans to build a second satellite launch pad and is exploring locations for a new space centre.
Studies have been carried out for setting up a second satellite launch pad as the country has geographical limitations in injecting satellites into orbit, he added.
The new satellite launch pad will enable the nation to launch low-earth-orbiting satellites into space, according to Press TV.
The initial plans for the proposal have already been initiated and detailed planning will begin once the supervising body approves the programme.
Iran unveiled its first major space centre in 2008 and is working on a 12-year project to send an astronaut into space by 2021.
