Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) director S Satish has said that India will launch the advanced GSAT-5P communication satellite on 20 December 2010 for uninterrupted telecom and television services.
The launch window will open at 16.00 on 20 December, and the rocket will blast off from ISRO’s second launch pad at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, he said.
The geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV) will carry the 2,300kg GSAT-5P with 36 transponders and the satellite will replace the aging INSAT 2E.
The process of filling the liquid and cryogenic fuel will begin before the actual flight and the launch rehearsal, without fuel, will be held today.
ISRO is also likely to launch Resourcesat-2, an earth observation satellite on 20 January 2011, according to the Economic Times.
India has launched two major satellites GSAT-4 communication satellite and remote sensing satellite Cartosat-2 this year.
