Japanese space agency JAXA is preparing to conduct a cryogenic test of its space launch vehicle H-IIB on 16 December this year.

The test will confirm the functions of the launch vehicle and ground facilities by loading propellants onto it in the same way as will be carried out on the launch day.

The test is being conducted as part of the preparations to launch the HTV2 unmanned spacecraft Kounotori 2 to the International Space Station (ISS) on 20 January 2011.

The spacecraft will deliver six tonnes of food, clothes and other scientific equipment to ISS and will return with used equipment, clothing and other waste material.
