Nasa has said that the launch of space shuttle Discovery will not be possible before 3 December due to ongoing repair work.

Following a space shuttle programme meeting, Nasa decided that further analysis was needed before proceeding with the launch of Discovery on its STS-133 mission.

The programme requirements control board (PRCB) identified the analysis and repairs required to safely launch Discovery.

The analysis will be reviewed at a special PRCB meet on 24 November.

Currently, work is under way to fix a leaking hydrogen system and to repair cracks atop two 21ft-long support beams, called stringers, on the exterior of the shuttle’s external fuel tank.

The Kennedy Space Center will not begin the launch countdown before 30 November, before making preparations to support a launch attempt for Discovery on 3 December.
