China plans to complete a manned space station by 2020, as a part of its ambitious space exploration programme.
China’s manned space engineering project intends to launch a space laboratory before 2016 to study the key technology involved in a space station, including living conditions for astronauts.
Following the 2016 launch, the country will develop and launch a core cabin and a second laboratory module around 2020 to be assembled, in orbit, into a space station.
The station will study technologies involved in long-term manned space flights.
China became the third nation in the world to put a man into space independently, after the US and Russia, in 2003.
